September 16 & 17, 2025 – Subcontracting is a vital component of construction projects, but modern subcontracts have grown more complex, often placing greater risk, responsibility, and liability on subcontractors. To succeed, subcontractors must understand these contracts thoroughly before problems arise. This workshop will equip both seasoned and new subcontractors with strategies and tools to maximize opportunities while mitigating risks.

Participants will work with a detailed manual containing spreadsheets, checklists, and templates to examine key contract elements, including design responsibility, performance specifications, flow-down provisions, scope of work, payment terms, insurance, warranties, and site facilities. Topics will also cover contract law, terms and conditions, and incorporation by reference. Attendees will collaborate to create a “Subcontract Handbook” and use a green-amber-red system to evaluate real subcontract clauses, learning to identify and address high-risk terms.

Drawing on over 40 years of industry experience, the workshop’s manual serves as both a reference and a practical guide for implementing effective processes in the office and on the jobsite. This hands-on approach ensures participants leave with actionable knowledge to strengthen their subcontracting practices.
