April 28 is the labour movement’s most solemn day, but also one to refocus our commitment to preventing future workplace injuries and deaths. Every year, thousands of workers, friends and families of fallen workers gather at ceremonies across Canada to recognize the National Day of Mourning for workers killed or injured on the job. The Ottawa ECA Members and staff once again participated in the OCA Symposium & Trade Show. This one-day event brings together all ellements of the construction industry under one roof to meet, learn and exchange business opportunities. The Ottawa ECA will host our 61st Annual General Meeting on March 4, 2025 at Mill Street Brewery. A reception, dinner and association reports will be provided along with special guest speaker, Dr. Ian Lee, Associate Professor in the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University. He is a member of the Carleton University Board of Governors, 2016-2019. he is also a member of the Sprott School MBA Committee, Carleton University EURUS Advisory Board and the Carleton University Graduate Appeal Committee since 2010. Dr. Lee appears extensively in the media including many television stations, radio stations and in the national and local print media. He has appeared before the House of Commons and Senate finance, banking, industry and trade committees dozens of times concerning public policy debates and has attended every budget lockup as an expert witness to Global TV since 2008. What a Grand Celebration!
This year, the Ottawa ECA proudly turned 60. To mark this milestone in style, we combined our Christmas Gala with 60th Anniversary festivities at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier Main Ballroom on Friday, December 6th, 2024.
With several hundred guests in attendance, the Association pulled out all the stops with a jazz band and champagne dress wearing server at the reception. Also featured were a welcoming harp player, dancers and staff serving drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
Upon entering the main ballroom guests were welcmed by a 30′ tall violinist and featured dancers. This was followed by an historical slide show, VJ music, a traditional turkey dinner, live feed speaches and finally agroup of dancers. The dancing then took over as the Sway Band took the stage.
It was a wonderful event enjoyed by over 300 members, sponsors, colleagues, family and friends as part of this once-in-a-lifetime gala event.
Our thanks to the volunteers and staff at the Ottawa ECA for all their work in putting on such a world class event.
