ECA Ottawa

An electrical apprenticeship is a training program that allows individuals to learn the skills necessary to become a qualified electrician. Apprentices work under the guidance of experienced professionals, gaining practical experience while also completing theoretical coursework. This dual approach ensures that apprentices develop both the technical skills and the knowledge required to succeed in the field. The Association features a five-year comprehensive training program that includes more than 1,200 hours of classroom study in electrical theory and project safety, along with 9,000 hours of on-the-job training with experienced electricians. If you are a grade 12 graduate, posses an aptitude for working with your hands, can perform the duties of an electrician you can apply for apprenticeship here.

To streamline access, the Ottawa ECA now offers an online application process available during specific periods throughout the year based on industry demand. The thorough and lengthy process allows applicants to submit their applications online and upload the required documentation. If you meet the requirements of the Local Apprenticeship Council, you will be invited to challenge our aptitude test, a 2-3 hour test design to test your math, comprehension and mechanical reasoning skills. Having successfully completing the aptitude test you will be invited to a short, formal interview conducted by representatives from the Ottawa Electrical Contractors Association and the IBEW Local Union 586.
